Sorry but I just burst into tears, poor little soul, bless him, and I really hope and pray that he can be made more comfortable, this is so sad.

Aww!!! He is still a handsome boy, bigger than I thought.
Let's hope the vet can help him to be more comfortable and lead as normal a life as possible.
A kiss from me to you Derek XXXXX

Was also just wondering. Is his neck going to be a problem around other dogs? Can he play like a normal pup? or does caution have to be taken around other dogs that are quite playfull?

Derek had his xrays today and the news, as I sort of expected, was not good.
He has only 5 vertebrae in his neck instead of the usual 7 and the 5th one is misshaped and causes his spine to go in to a v shape which in turn look like it causes compression of the disk.
I had a chat with our vet about the chances of anything surgical being possible and she thinks it is unlikely and if it was would it be fair to put him through what would be pretty dreadful surgery. She has never seen a case like this and she didn't even xray the tail area as she feels the neck is the major problem.
We have agreed that an orthopedic specialist should look at the xrays before we make any decisions, so that should happen early next week.
In the meantime Derek will stay on pain relief.
