Wilfred (as I have named him) was found tied up outside council offices in Swindon. He was not doing at all well in the pound there and ended up in hospital. Elaine W picked him up today and brought him all the way to Pontypridd on her way to Brecon. He is a very old JRT and a little grouchy.

Wilf came up to stay on Thursday, At first he was away with the faries all the time, sleeping all day and not interested in anything much at all, but now the vivitonin are starting to work, there's somebody home, he's enjoying a stroll in the garden and eating really well. He even knew what to do with sunday's lamb bone There's obviously a lovely little fella in there I hope whoever dumped him like that ends up with dementia and getting dumped somewhere too His eyes and ears aren't too good either, so when you give him something by hand or ago to stroke him he can almost have your hand off but he's getting better now he's getting used to us.

Pauline he looks so much better and wonderful to see him tucking in instead of standing with his nose to the wall.

Wilf is doing well, he's more alert now and takes an interest in things around him more. He really enjoys his food now and joins in the chorus when it's being prepared. Having him here with us reminds us so much of FOTA oldie Sammie (fondly known as senile Sammie) who also had dementia, she was a real character, unfortunatley only with us few months, but they were very happy months for us all. Hopefully Wilf can have that same happiness in what remains of his life now, with the help of the vivitonin.

Oh the boy, he's breaking my heart. I was nearly asleep in bed, then I remembered the little chap and I was back online just to check up on him. One of mine has started to show early signs on dementia, we're told.
Will Wilfred stay with his fosterers forever now?

Having had a dog with Dementia, I can understand the poor little fella, mine too was on Vivitonin, and was fine for the last two years of her life she 16 when she went to the bridge, I hope Wilf will have lots of love and enjoy what life he has left, bless him.

Honestly, I was playing with a lovely, old JRT in the park today and all I could think about is lovely Wilf. Imagine having dementia AND being fumped on the street like that. I just can't get him out of my head. How's he doing?

he's doing very well today, he has been mingling with the others much more and not worrying about the children moving close by him.(the rapid movement of the other dogs and children frightenend him at first). He is getting better at taking food from our hand now without us risking the loss of a finger He likes to be fussed a little more now and seems to be enjoying some T-Touch, which I've just started trying on him. He originally cameup to us for last weekend while Eileen was in Devon, We are off to my mum's next week and he's not ready for a car ride of 200 miles there and 200 back, so he'll probably be going back with Eileen while we're gone. As for the long term future a permanent foster home is the plan, wether that is with us or not depends on how he copes with the amount of dogs here and the coming and going of fosters. He may be better off in a quieter home with fewer dogs. It's still early days on the vivitonin, so we can't really say just yet.

I'm so glad he's coming along well, what a little darling. He seems to improving pretty fast for an old guy, especially cuddle wise. I've heard that posting pictures of T-Touch patients on their rehoming threads can really help with the treatments. *cough*
I tell you though, if I didn't wish I had a garden before, I certainly wish I did now; I'd have him like a shot. If there's anything I can do for him at all, please let me know.
I must be able to think of *someone* who would be perfect for him (and would let me come and give him the odd scratch).

Wilfred spent 2 weeks with Eileen while we were away. Eileen was a bit concerned with him being in a world of his own for much of the time he was there. But since coming back up to us here on Tuesday, he's been having a wander round the house and patio, following Phil around and mixing with the other dogs quite a bit. today he had a good nose around the garden popped in the shed for a fuss with Phil and generally had a nice wander around He's always been happier around Phil, so It seems that he's been a man's dog in the past and he benefits from me being around all day. So for now he seems to be better off here with us. So we'll take things a day at a time and see how he goes along.

Thanks for the update on Wilfred. He reminds me so much of my Jack (JRT) who had dementia for the last 18 months of his life, he went to the Bridge in October aged 17. Have you noticed any difference in Wilfred since he's been on Vivitonin? Judi

Yes there was a difference in him right from the start, he was more alert and with it after just a couple of days.
It's unfortunate that we obviously had a little setback while he was at Eileen's, so it's really asessing him on a day to day basis now that he's back with us. So far I'm pleased with the improvement and will be having a chat with Eileen tomorrow, but I'm hoping us being around with him all day will help keep his mind from wandering and help him to get some quality time out of life for a while .

I am so pleased he is doing so well, this little man is special to me. He came to the rescue the day after my grandad died, my grandad was called Wilf, (short for Wilfred, obviously). A coincidence? I am not so sure
