but I cannot remember what date and what year we lost Spot and Stripe It must be 9 years ago?? I've struggled more and more over the years to remember exact dates (how bad am I ) , but I do remember it was the Friday before Christmas and they got killed at around 5pm - rush hour traffic Someone had made a concerted effort to let them out of our garden and they were gone Despite searching for them (and avoiding rush hour traffic) we finally tracked them down at a vets in Cardiff - deceased If we had stayed in the queue of the *rush hour traffic* we would have discovered that it was our very own boys that had caused the delay I can still physically feel the pain of when I spoke to the vet who confirmed they were there and they were both dead - I can still remember every detail, falling to my knees, screaming and being inconsolable. Having to tell Mr OLG. Taking my very young son and neice out for a *meal* to break the news to them. I can remember me and Mr OLG trawling the whole of the duel carriage way looking for the spot where they got killed. Mr OLG drove and I walked, scouring to find the spot where they got killed I can still remember their smell, their ways, everything about them - why can't I remember such a simple thing as the actual date and year We still miss you Spot and Stripe - taken away far too young

Huge ((Hugs))
Because our brains try to heal us and shelter us from pain, so sometimes we forget certain things. Doesnt mean we forget the ones we loved and lost though. They will always be in our hearts.

Oh Denese, I am so sorry The date doesnt matter nor the year, but the fact that you still remember their smell and everything about them - not the exact date - shows how much you love them still. I do believe that the physical pain will never leave you as the scars obviously run deep and the shock must have been unbearable. The body has a coping mechanism which is to fog the memory of the tremendous impact in a way to protect you. I am thinking of you and Mr OLG today and understand your pain xxx

Huge hugs for you both , inadequate as they are .... The memories are just so terrible that I agree your brain has tried to block some of it out . I lost both my boys over Christmas 11 years ago to illness but that pales next to your horrific experience .

Aw Denese. It must have been a devastating time for you all. I can't remember the exact dates when I lost three of my dogs, but is that really so important? You do remember the most important things of all.............. I can still remember their smell, their ways, everything about themThey were obviously very loved.

Thank you all so very much They were so young 2 1/2 But such funny characters This time 10(?) years ago I remember Stripe eating pickled gerkins lol Neither of them would eat stuffing lol Gawd they got up to so much mischief - puppy toilet training?? we thought we had it sussed until we discovered that Spot used to do his business behind the sofa I still have their dog hair that we gathered from the floor after we lost them It took us (until we picked up Patch aka OLG) to even get into bed - we slept on the sofa's for the whole time after they went The only saving grace is that their loss has in turn enabled me to do what I do now. MY brother is still the owner of their sister (Bonnie) and she is a fabulous little thing How odd that I can remember that they were all born on July 17th 1999 though

A terrible way to lose such loved members of your family.
The tears are falling as I read the memories you still have of these two lovely dogs.

Its not awful not being able to remember the date, its your bit of protection against such terrible news, you have an idea of the when, but exactly when, why should you live that, every day, every year............... for 24 hours!!?
Your description is so vivid, I can't even begin to imagine the trauma of that day, I am brimming, gotta go.

I too lost a runaway dog to a passing vehicle, so I can feel your pain only too well, Denese. In our case, we were about 2 miles from any road until she ran like the wind away from me and must have dashed straight out into the path of what was probably the one and only vehicle on that particular remote lane all day. It still hurts like hell many years later.....and the guilt never leaves either.

Denese, So sorry to read the sad news about spot and stripe but as others have said you remember so much about them still to this day that the date of their loss is incidental. Hugs to you i cannot imagine what it must be like to lose family pets in such tragic circumstances. Elaine xx
