This chap deAls more with orthopaedic surgery I think Lesley.
No results back for Max yet,so still not 100% sure of diagnosis , but it is more of a soft tissue tumour that is spreading rapidly.

John and I took Max out for a few hours this afternoon. He enjoyed a run around, and a paddle in the pond. He had two sausages from a burger van, then when I turned my back he stole the sausage in a roll that I had only taken two bites out of!!!!! As a treat back in his kennel, he had......1/2 breast of chicken that I cooked last night. Apologies to Claire for any mess in his kennel tomorrow, but in the circumstances I think she won't mind.

I am not any sort of expert but I am under the impression that if the tumour is malignant (which is what I was expecting since Karen seemed to think the news would be bad) that the malignant tumours usually invade the bone/jawbone and that is why I was suggesting Fitzpatrick as he does deal with bone cancers etc I really hope Max has a good outcome - more than anything in the world I want this to have a happy ending xxxx ps you are all doing such a great job giving him these fab walks - wish I wasn't working such long hours xxxx

Sue so lovely to see him out again.
Lesley because it's the top jaw I think it makes it really hard plus it's really far back making his eye weep....

As lou says the growth is on the top opf his mouth and towards the back. Karen would have been willing to operate if it was a lower jaw and she told me they had a Great Dane that had most of the lower jaw removed and survived another 3 years. The only probloem was that his tongue hung out.
They have operated on other dogs with lower jaw growths but this is not an option for Max. Thanks for putting the link though Lesley. I have heard some good things about this guy.

Thanks for explaining that Eileen and Lou and poor wee man. I know that lower jaw ops are quite successful - in that dogs are able to cope quite well afterwards. Sadly it was not an option for little Sophie the shih tzu off my forum as shih tzu have such teeny tiny jaws anyway the vet thought it would be an impossibillity.
I am sending lots of hugs and positive vibes for Max - he has really touched my heart (considering I have a very specific attraction to dogs) and you girls taking him for walks are marvellous so am sending you all hugs as well - and Eileen too. One day there is going to be a sainthood waiting for you to thank you for all the love you give all the animals in this world xxxxx

Took Max out again today he was a little quitter than normal but he had a good play with Bosley Betty Tess,Troy and Trinity all running around (Tess belongs to John who is helping walk Kennel dogs) the swelling has moved on up towards his eye poor boy, I don't know what else to say other than he really enjoyed Betty's company this morning, oh and he had a visiter from the very start of his new life Alison from Swindon pound said hello to him i forgot when Clare said she came.. X x x
