My father was a funny little Irish man, Richard or 'Dickie' as he was known to family and friends had a tough life. Born to a very poor Dublin family, he caught tuberculosis in India during the war and came back to England from a sanatorium in South Africa a very poorly man.
He confounded all the doctors who wrote him off and although he never was well enough to work he just kept going. He wasn't always easy to live with and when I was in school he suffered bouts of depression. He always told his four children that to be able to work was a privilege and all of us grew up with a strong work ethic.
He is missed by us all and at family gatherings we always talk about him and remember the man we loved and cherished.
Love you dad.
