This face that melted a thousand hearts belongs to 4-month old Bichon cross Cavalier, Trigger, who is being fostered in RCT, South Wales. Those of you who read our Facebook pages regularly will have been following the story of this little boy who was born without the equipment to pee and poo properly.
Trigger had successful surgery but will always be prone to urinary infections and there may be problems with faecal incontinence from time to time. Despite this, Trigger is a bouncy, happy, waggy-tailed little puppy who jumps all over his foster mum when she comes home. He is always very happy to see people and always ready to play with his toys. Trigger loves a belly rub. If something startles Trigger he will bark – and it really is the cutest little bark you have ever heard.
Puppy training is essential for Trigger – just as it would be for any normal dog of his age. He is learning how to “sit”, “wait” and “give paw” but it is all early days. House training is a work in progress. Trigger doesn’t have any problems in the home. Trigger is lead trained.
As he is still a young lad his socialisation with other dogs is still being worked on. He has never shown any signs of aggression or nervousness but is very excited to meet other dogs. He is currently attending puppy training classes – and it would be a requirement of adoption that these classes are continued. Trigger lives with 3 cats – he gets on very well with them and wants to play with them. Trigger can be left alone form short periods and is happy to be left in a crate. Trigger is a typical puppy, interested in everything and not any more destructive than is usual for a puppy. The garden fences aren’t something he is looking to scale – but again, as he’s a little one, gardens would need to be secure.
Trigger travels well and gets very excitable at the vets! This little lad is very, very sociable with adults. He has been around a 7 month old child, but because of potential faecal incontinence in the future we would not home him with small children.
Because of his medical history, Trigger will need a home that is prepared to cope with his rear end problems. We would offer an “assisted adoption” – covering his medical expenses, but his new family will have to be prepared to cope with flare ups – and at present there is no way of knowing how often problems are likely to occur. Although he copes well while his foster mum is at work, Trigger would be best suited to someone who is at home for a good part of the day as he is still so young. We would only re-homeTrigger with someone who had experience of dogs – he would not be suitable as a first time pet. He really is a little darling who will very quickly find his place in your heart.
Trigger is neutered, up to date with his worming and flea treatment, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Prospective adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in South Wales.
