Information from Peg
30th June 08
Bracken and her sister Fern were bought from a farmer who usually shoots his dogs. She was purchased with some other dogs by another farmer but Bracken and Fern's puppies were born with serious hernias so they have been handed in for re homing.
Bracken is very frightened and although she wants to be fussed she is scared. She comes to you and touches your hand with her nose and then runs away to hide. It took me half an hour to catch her this morning as she hid behind flower pots in the garden.
She has lost a lot of fur probably due to stress and having puppies but it is growing back so her coat should be fine with time. She will take time to learn to trust and to get used to living in the outside world. She gets on well with all the other dogs but would not be suitable for a home with small children. She will need to be housetrained, lead trained and everything she will experience will be a new to her.
She needs a home with another dog to give her confidence and who she can follow. If you think you have the time and patience to teach this girl about being loved then please complete our pre adoption form. You will have a homevisit and there is a minimum adoption donation.
Bracken has been spayed today and had her frist vaccination.

I have copied and pasted Eileens write up about Bracken from the other day. This little lady came to stay with us today, she was great in the car, settled down straight away with Paddington and never made a murmur all the way home despite being stuck in a traffic jam for a looooong time due to an accident on the M1 and then we had to divert and go find another way home.
When we arrived home I went to get her from the car and bless her she came across the seat tail wagging, wriggling her little bottom and smiling. I took her a walk with Paddington and she loved it smelling all the new exciting smells around.
She was ok with my others when we came in, I opened the back door so she was nipping in and out searching the garden for more new smells, even though it was raining She had a good look around inside and seemed to like what she saw. She has this funny endearing habit of coming towards you with a smile on her face and everything wriggling. She so wants affection but is just a little bit scared and unsure. If I put my hand down she'll give it a little lick and tonight she everso slightly and quickly held my fingers in her mouth for a second or two. Then she runs away but she isn't hiding now she is just unsure if she's going to be hurt. She isn't sure about Neil yet and hasn't gone to him but she sits watching him and will go and stand just out of reach bless her, her little tail wagging behind her.
She walks well on the lead and only gets skittish if something startles her, she loves being out on walks and strangely enough wasn't phased when she saw a bus go past or when she saw the children playing in the park. She went round behind me and with 4 others I had to get her on the same side so just lifted my leg to go over the lead and get her in front, this startled her and she pulled back and cowered a little but I just spoke to her telling her what a good girl she was and she soon started walking again and by the end of that walk I'd had to do it a few times but it didn't bother her again.
She ate all her dinner, was a little scared at first but when she realised it wasn't going to be taken away she was fine. She's discovered the toys tonight and the sofa, I have to admit to having a tear or two when I saw her playing with the toys. She took Harry hedgehog into the bed with her and because Nemo had been a bit in her face she told him off when he went to investigate. It wasn't aggression I'd told him but he ignored me she told him in Welsh I think and he got the message I'll post some pics at the bottom of her with the toys.
I've kept her harness on so I can catch her to put her lead on, this probably won't be necessary in a few days when she begins to understand she's not going to be hurt and coming to humans doesn't mean pain.
It will take work, more so than with a puppy, the expuppy farm dogs have to learn to trust humans again, they go through a hell that we can't even imagine but I honestly believe that given time Bracken will make a super little dog. She just needs to trust, she's half way there already with her little wriggles and smiles. I am looking forward so much to the day she jumps up to be fussed. She's already following the others around and got in Megans bed with her for a few minutes tonight.
She has had a couple of accidents of course, I don't say anything I just mop up and wash up. She'll learn from the others to start going outside as the days go on.
Here are some pics of pretty Miss Bracken
A bit tired
My baby
Looking who she's living with
After her last walk totally shattered and asleep before I can get the lead off
Sorry this is long but wanted to share her first day with you.
