Told to me today by a well known pet rescuer in my area as it happened to him a few years back.....
Anyways we were having a chat and he was telling me all about this dog that someone had tried to cut off it's tail with metal shears, they had kinda done it and it's tail was just hanging on, the rescue man had to cut the rest of the tail off and bandage it up, not caring about the mess in his car.
He stopped to get the dog some water as he wasn't quite prepared for what he had collected. When this man wandered over to him, the guy didn't look well kept, had tatty clothes on, strings around his feet, didn't look like he lived in a house.
However as the man spoke you could tell he was either down on his luck and had fallen on hard times or he just liked to dress that way, which in it'self was odd.
Anyways the guy starts to tell the rescuer off about the state of the animal, and the rescuer tells him the story of the dog and how the dog was at that time on it's way to the vets.
The old guy shows the rescuer a picture of a dog he had in his wallet and it looked exactly like the collie that the rescuer had, the rescuer was bemused as the markings were virtually identical and if you didn't know you would have thought it to be the same dog.
So the old guy said that his dog had been pts a few weeks earlier of old age and would the rescuer offer his injured dog to him...when the rescuer said he had to follow guidelines the old guy said.....look don't judge a book by it's cover...please follow me in your car and when we come to a stop, you WILL offer me an apology.
So the rescuer follows the old guy that gets into a grubby pick up truck and they drive to a Mansion where as the staff were all there to welcome the master of the house....There, his staff where asked to get a vet, who in turn, turned up in less than 10 minutes.
An operation was carried out there and then, as the house had an area rigged up specificully for his old aged dog, complete with miniature sofas, beds and cushions.
It turned out that this Old man was well known for dressing down, he was I think an earl and donated over £9000 per year to 7 different animal charities.
The old man said, before you leave the dog must be mine, the rescuer still said, sorry I have to follow guidlines, it's not up to me...so he called his bosses, who knew full well of this special benefactor, whos love for animals surpassed him....and told the rescuer to use his judgement.
So the rescuer did, and the dog stayed with the old man in his mansion, the old man keeps in touch with the rescue and donates to them yearly as a thank you for his new found friend.
The rescue guy is invited up to the mansion all the time and has been up there just this year to check on how things are going, and has made a good friend of the Earl.
Moral of this story.
Not everything is as it seems
Not everyone is who they appear to be.
Dont' judge a book by it's cover.
Love for something can come from anywhere at anytime.
