Lucky has started peeing in the house in the nights , and we need this behaviour to stop as soon as possible. We let him go out the back at around 10ish so he can go before we all go to bed, but we still wake up to find he has done his business on the floor. I do tell him off and tell him no but he carries on doing it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this behaviour?

If he has only just started doing this and wasn't before, he might have a little infection..so a vet check up might be needed. Also best to go back to basics re housetraining. lots of praise /treats/fuss when he does go outside and ignore him going inside. There is no point telling him off unless you actually catch him in the act, as he won't know why he is being told off afterwards, but will just know you are angry by the tone of your voice. As he won't know why you are angry, you could make it worse as he might think you are angry cos' he is weeing anywhere and then be reluctant to go outside. Just clean it up and ignore it and go outside with him and then praise him if he goes. I am sure other people will be along with some more advice. Cuddles for the little man Katherine XXX

Thanks Katherine for the advice. I took some treats out earlier and gave them to him when he went. I forgot to mention I did take him over to the spot where he'd done his business before telling him off. I will just ignore him from now on when he does it.

I'm having a similar problem with the 2 pups we have, they are 9 months old now, but they still arent 100% housetrained, but their problem we think is down to the filth they lived in before coming here .... they sleep in the dining room so the floor is easy to clean, but sometimes crate training can help, it did with 1 of our other dogs

Please don't shout at him, there is a reason he is doing this, so firstly get him checked at the vets, then as you have already been advised ignore the problem, but praise him with cuddles and lots of excited words when he does it outside, so he knows he is good and you are not angry,as he did not do this before, the reason must be found, and then solved, shouting will only make him more worried and frightened. good luck, keep us informed.forgot to ask do you see him go when you let him out last thing.
Glenice.

We do have a crate available if this would help. He would be less likely to wee in his bed. I hope he hasn't got anything medically wrong but needs to be checked for a water infection.

When our dogs were pups, we used to let them out and say "Get busy!!" Now Tazz is 12 and Frankie 2 and they both wee on command. We said the same to Sally our dog who went to the bridge at 17 years too. When my children were young , they used to say, Mum...one day Sooty will come on TV and say "Izzy wizzy let's get busy!!!".. and the dogs will wee all over our carpet!!! We were always very careful when the Sooty programme came on!!!

Thanks everyone for the comments and advice. It all helped. He has not done it in the house now since Monday night. Lucky seems to have settled down and he now goes out the back before he goes to bed Will get pics on tomorrow.

Thats great to hear, perhaps something upset or worried him, as it is still early days for him yet, but if he starts again please have him checked out, does he seem ok in himself,? and when you let him out last thing make sure you see him do something, then you will know that he has had a wee and not just a wander round the garden, Lol look forward to more piccies, he is a lovely little chap.

Glenice. I think he may have been a bit worried. He and mam weren't seeing eye to eye much last week but they're great friends now He is absolutely fine in himself and he knew he'd done wrong because he usually gets up and jumps over us but instead he stayed in his bed when he did it.

What food do people feed their dogs?? Lucky is currently on Pal (not my choice) but I heard Burns was good? Any advice?

My two are fed on Burns chicken and brown rice, or Fish and brown rice, this is what they were fed on when at Eileens, so I have continued to feed this,Lady likes a drop of warm water on hers, but Jack eats it dry (good for their teeth) if you do change to dry food do it over a period of 4 to 5 days by adding a little dry to the pal,and increase the dry a little each meal, so that he has less pal each meal.Burns may seem expensive to buy,but you feed less about 60grm per day, so it works out cheaper in the long run, have a look at the Burns web site, www.burns .co,uk. also the feeding guide. there are other good foods on the market, but Pedigree is full of colourants, so I would not use.
