Thought I'd share the other loves in my life with you all.....My beloved birdy family.
I have 5 parakeets who keep me amused and laughing as they are always chirpy and cheeky.
First of all we have Percy and Pippin cockatiels...Percy is on the left....Percy was my first cocky that my daughter bought for me as my bestest Mother's Day pressy ever, he was 15 on Jan 1st and is very tame, he was hand reared. Pippin is the last of the cockies I bred when I had my aviary in Manchester..I watched him hatching and fell in love with him, Pippen was 9 on 29th Nov. Both of these little munchkins free fly during the day in my bedroom, only room Archie is banned from.
Next is Jimmy and Billy my Bourkes Parakeets ( Jimmy's on the left, Billy closes his eyes when he spots my camera, he's shy ) these two are now pensioners, both about 12 years old, they're not too keen on coming out for a flutter nowadays but have a very large cage with plenty of toys which are swapped around weekly.
Last up is Bertie who is a black faced green lovebird who's approx 6 years old, I used to have four of these delightful lovebirds ( all rescues ) 2 greens like Bertie and 2 black faced blues but sadly 3 have died, Bertie's mate died Christmas before last and Bertie went through a mourning period and lost most of his feathering, happily almost re-grown and he's looking good again and very, very playful. These lovebirds originate from Africa ( unlike most of the other types who come from Australia ) and are not as noisey and scrappy, mind you I wouldn't trust them too close to other birds they can still do damage. Bertie is another one who is camera shy. Excuse the marks on the cage bars etc. they had all just been water sprayed, they all get a rinse in the mornings to keep their plumage in order and also to try and keep feather dust down...coz I hates dusting
Excuse the chewed up towel behind Bertie's cage, saves him nibbling at the wallpaper.
All my feather babies are fed on a mixture of seeds that I mix for them plus treats of millet/seed sticks once weekly. Daily they each have a dish of fresh salad leaves/tomatoes ( home grown ) chopped fruits, nuts etc, celery, carrot, dandelion or whatever veg I have in, also wild blackberries, fruits etc. Sometimes I think they eat better than I do. Hope you have enjoyed seeing my birdy family.
Jean xx
