I first posted this in December 08 but as we are promised some more bad weather soon thought I would remind people to remember the wild birds who need our help in winter time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As some of you know I keep a few birdies and spoil them with a variety of goodies to nibble usually home grown or found in my garden or the woods near me. I also feed the wild birds in my garden mostly during the winter, especially now the weather has turned so cold and the ground is frozen. I'm asking you all to remember our little feathered friends who need a helping hand wing just now. Fresh water in a shallow bowl ( a round plastic marj pot will do ) will be eagerly used by birds for drinking and feather care, just change it twice a day but please don't add salt to stop it freezing. Good food ideas, apart from the usual scraps are pomegranates cut into halves threaded with string and hung in trees or from a bird table........another delicacy is coconuts cracked open and hung up in trees or bushes. I was lucky this year at Christmas and kind Mr Santa left me a lovely new log bird table, this is filled daily with a wild bird seed mix containing lots of dried insects, a fat cake also containing insects, a small pot is in one corner for adding a few nuts and oats etc. So please help the birdies, even if you dint have a garden a seed feeder hung on your wall can make all the difference this winter. Oh, nearly forgot.....make a brew and sit back in the comfort of your warm home and watch your winter visitors enjoying a feast. Jean xx
