Name: Mr Darcy
Age: 3 years young
Breed: Blonde Golden Retriever
Can I live with Children: No
Can I live with cats: Not tested
Can I live with other dogs: Yes, quiet well mannered ones
Fostered In: RCT
My name is Darcy but that is Mr Darcy to you. Like my namesake, I am a gentlemen with the ladies but can see other men as competition. I love the gentleman lifestyle, pampering, treats, a warm sofa and gentle strolls in the country. I have an old war wound which means I am missing a front leg but I see this as an opportunity to get more attention from the ladies. I like to meet other people but on my terms. I have lead a sheltered life and am looking forward to being introduced to new experience and tests.
People – Darcy loves the ladies! He is initially wary around men, possibly something to do with his past, but this can be trained out of him with time and patience and a lot of treats. Darcy is better when he is introduced to calm, seated adults rather than them entering his space. Once he is used to you he seems happy enough. He sees his mummy as his protection so this behaviour will need further work. He has improved and is a work in progress.
Dogs – Darcy could be an only dog but is happy around others as long as they are not fussy and will leave him alone.
Cats – Darcy has not been in close proximity with cats but ignores them when out on walks.
In the home – Darcy can be left for short periods and is not destructive. He has had little exposure to toys and play but loves the sofa. He has no interest in trying to escape from the garden. Darcy eats like a gentleman but prefers his bowl raised as he only has one front leg. Darcy is house trained. Although he is not bothered by noises, care should be taken not to startle him, at least in the early stages.
Out and about – Darcy is good on a lead but, as his amputation is recent, short walks are all that is needed but this should be built up over time to help his waistline.
Type of home – Darcy needs either an adult only home or one with older teenage girls. He could easily be an only dog or could possibly live with another dog as long as the new owners are willing to give him time to settle. Ideally he needs someone with dog experience who understands that Darcy's history is unknown and therefore will need to be patient with him. Really all he needs is time and love as he is such a sweet boy.
Darcy is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in RCT, South Wales.
