Name: Sabrina (Saffy)
Age: 5-6 years
Breed: Bichon Frise
Can I live with Children:Older sensible ones
Can I live with cats: Yes
Can I live with other dogs: Yes, a must
Fostered In: Chippenham, Wiltshire
Sabrina is an ex-breeding girl and will only be rehomed with another calm, neutered resident dog to help with building her confidence in the home and around humans.
People – Sabrina is fine with her foster mum stroking her and picking her up now and likes to be dried with a towel when she comes in from the rain. She trusts her and a bond will have to be built with her new owners to allow them to do this. Saffy is still wary of her foster dad, she will take a treat from him then growl. She is more confident with him now but he’s not able to stroke her or get too close. He does work long hours so she doesn’t see so much of him. Sabrina likes to watch visitors but keeps a safe distance and likes to have an escape route.
It is unknown how Sabrina would react to children as she hasn’t met any but she can nip in excitement though she doesn’t break the skin. So older sensible children only please.
Dogs – Sabrina is living with two female cocker spaniels and an older male crossbreed. She is fine with them all. She will growl if the other dogs try to eat her food and can be can be a little pushy when there are treats being given out as she doesn’t want to miss them but she’s learning to be patient.
Cats – Sabrina is fine with the cats in her foster home having been put in her place by the older cat. She has chased the other cat in the garden when he ran across the lawn but that was more in fun than to chase.
In the home – Sabrina now knows her name and comes when her foster mum calls her. She is so pleased to see her foster mum when she comes in, she stands on her back legs and waves her front legs in the air. She does love her treats and has been found snuffling in a coat pocket if it has been left on the back of a chair and she can smell treats in the pocket.
Sabrina has been left with the other dogs for up to 4 hours. She barks if left without them for company. She hasn’t played with toys yet but is good with the interactive toys where she works out how to get treats. She will chew cardboard and paper but hasn’t chewed anything else. Her housetraining is getting there and she’s pretty good at using puppy pads in the house but it is still a work in progress.
Out and about – Sabrina has so far been on the lead at the recreation ground and a short way down the cul de sac where she lives. She is on an extendable lead and just wanders where she wants to go. If she is unsure she will just stand still and not move. She is always walked with at least one of the other dogs for confidence but this needs more patience and work. Saffy travels fine in the car even on longer journeys. She has started to come out of her shell and loves running around the garden.
Type of home – Because of Sabrina’s background she will need another dog to continue to show her what being a dog is all about. A dog her own size would be great. She needs someone who is around for the majority of the day with the patience to let her come around in her own time but they will be rewarded with a loyal fun little dog.
Sabrina is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in Chippenham, Wiltshire
