Some of you may remember Betsy who came to me from FOARCT as a foster in March 2012. There was no way I was going to keep her as I already had 2 dogs. Betsy was so naughty, I wanted her to find her forever home asap. Some people came to meet her and I realised that it would break my heart to let her go. She had well & truly crept under my skin & into my heart. Many phone calls followed, with me in tears a lot of the time because I thought I was going to have to let her go. Finally, I convinced the fostering co-ordinator (sorry, I've forgotten her name) that I wanted to keep Betsy for all the right reasons and she became mine.
Fast forward to December last year & Betsy was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the Liver. She was a very poorly girl & i was told by the specialist at the vet hospital that she may have a few weeks left. Christmas just didn't happen in my house last year. With that hanging over us, how could we celebrate?
As it happened, the specialist vet was wrong, Betsy actually had another 10 wonderful, fun filled months with me. She was such a little character and so noisy!
Sadly, the liver disease returned, and as she was already on all the medication known to the veterinary profession, there was no more to be done and I had to let my beautiful Betsy go to Rainbow Bridge on 3 October.
I will never forget her, even though she was only here for 2 & a half years. Run free now beautiful Betsy, bark to your heart's content at Rainbow Bridge. We'll be together again one day.
