Hi everyone.
Now I'm on the pc rather than my phone I thought I'd share some photos of our nutty foster household. We foster a variety of animals, currently 5, with 3 of them being long term/lifelong as they have medical/behavioural needs.
Meet Candy - she's an ex Romanian street dog who is thought to be between 12-15 years old. She came into long term foster with us after I saw her on the Oldies site as she'd been waiting for a while. She has severe allergies which mean at her worst time she's needed baths every other day for months on end just to keep her comfortable, alongside meds. She's on hypo-allergenic food and meds as well and recently started on tumeric paste to see if that can help her skin and joints. She's recently been diagnosed as having an inoperable mass over her bladder which is making her leaky and she also has a few lumpy teats which the vet has advised to leave alone. We don't know how long she has left..vet thinks it could be months or years...depends how quickly things progress, she's been with us a year next month, and was diagnosed as terminally ill recently. (She has had a hair cut since this photo, which I've learnt how to do). Shes a food thief (we have bungee cords on the fridge! So don't let her sweet face fool you lol butter wouldn't melt!
This is Saunders. She's around 9 years old and was handed in to rescue by an owner who had felt he was doing right by her letting her live in a cat carrier so she didn't get run over. Very sad....in the cattery at the rescue she would bolt as soon as she saw a person and was very very timid and also didn't know how to play and would gobble food down... It took around two weeks of gentle respectful socialising with us in a room for her to completely change. She is now a true cuddle cat and loves jumping on the bed for cuddles and rubs. She prefers to stay upstairs so we have a split house divide which works really well for the cats and us. Shes been with us 6 months.
This is Tatu, and the cat who got us back into fostering after we took a break. When he first came into long term foster it was thought he might not have a long life expectancy as he has FIP. He's been with us around 4-5 years now and because of this he's thought to be an FIP carrier. He lounges around downstairs but has been known to attack us and the other animals without provocation, so he now has Feliway plugged in constantly, which has completly changed his behaviour and he's a chilled out cat. Because of his FIP he's on high end food so it doesn't upset his tummy and his litter is changed daily.
Those 3 are the long term fosters. We also currently have 2 cat/dog friendly greyhounds in foster, one has just been spayed and will be having a dental shortly, then I should imagine she'll find a home very quickly as shes such a sweetheart - really wish we could adopt. The other greyhound benefits from Adaptil collars and a thundershirt as she can be hit and miss whilst on walks (she'll refuse to walk, bark at anything going one day then the next ignore them) Shes only young so the rescue are hoping she'll be with us a while to get her confidence and past her issues.
Then there's me, 2 children and hubby ;0)
