Hello everyone!
My name is Molly and I live in Cardiff with Leo, a Golden Retriever, and my increasing number of hamsters, which I take in when their owners can no longer look after them. I have been browsing this forum for a while and thought it was about time that I joined, after all, it does seem like a very friendly place! My parents have long wanted to adopt/foster dogs, but as Leo is fear aggressive, have never been able to and so we try and help out in other ways that we can.
As said, I take in hamsters and my most recent hand (on Friday) in is a little male, the daughter of the people had lost interest, leaving him in a slight state for a while. He has plastic bags, cello tape and the remains of triop egg/food in his cage, some which he has been chewing as he was not given any toys and could barely sit in his wheel. His bedding was quite soiled and I usually have a good stomach, but not for that! It seems the child was not well educated either as she painted a lot of his food ect and also his water bottle was at an angle so he could not use it. Needless to say, after moving him into a bigger cage with a better wheel, toys, fresh food/water and even a sand bath, he perked up! But he still does remain a frightened little man and was names as a 'biter' before, but it is just nervous and he has happily taken food from my had with a simple nibble of my jacket.
My other two hamsters are Hatton and Angel, although I am expecting another hand in later in the week. Hatton was left outside a pet shop with other hamsters in July 2012, he is still skittish so I have no idea what happened to him previously, but he is happily handled and has not once bitten. Then there is little Angel, although she is bigger than both males! Angel was left outside a pet store a few days before Christmas. She was a bit of a biter at first but now when I walk into the room she is happy to come over to me and have some cuddles, she is also a long-haired female and so is very fluffy
I am looking forward to becoming more of a member on this forum and maybe helping out
