We are just about to adopt Benji and have been looking into pet insurance. I'm getting so confused. Any recommendations?

i am with more than for my two,I have life time policies ,been with them for 3 yrs have not claimed, but can't imagine any problems, a reasonable price too, there is Tesco Argos,I was with Argos a few yrs back but the price of renewal went up a bit steep, might be better now. animal friends seem to be popular too.

Thanks glenice. In your opinion is the lifetime cover a safer/better option?

Yes,lifetime cover is just that all illness's are covered for life and cover is renewed each year. Other policies say that once you claim for an illness, the next year it is known as a pre existing illness so is not covered. Some people just put say £25 a month in a separate account just for vet bills, but if something happens before you get a decent amount saved it means you have to dig deep to find the money, like all insurances we pay it hoping we never need it,so we are actually paying for peace of mind.

In my opinion life time cover is better. You have to watch if you switch insurers at renewal because the new insurer will exclude any health problem which the animal has had, regardless of whether you actually claimed or not (for example B had itchy skin one year and we went to the vets for treatment, really minor problem which I paid myself - a new insurer would exclude any & all skin problems). I've always insured all of my pets with the same insurer with lifetime cover & never had any problem claiming. I came unstuck a couple of years ago because the insurer stopped trading, new insurers were excluding so much it wasn't worth taking the cover. B has cost me nearly £2000 over the last 12 months, which would have been covered if the Insurance Company had continued trading.
It's a difficult one because insurance and vets are both expensive. Personally I would still insure a new pet on a lifetime basis, insure it from day 1 so that nothing is excluded. If you decide not to insure you really have to be prepared for some sizeable bills IF the animal has health problems or accidents.

Thanks both. Will be going for the lifetime cover. It's so complicated. Just don't want to get caught out with a potential hefty vets bill.
