Name:Mildred
Age: 4/5 years
Breed: Border terrier
Can I live with Children: Yes
Can I live with cats: Not tested – but probably not – she does bark at them and tries to chase them.
Can I live with other dogs: Would rather be an only dog
Fostered In: South Wales
When gentle Mildred the 4/5 year old Border Terrier came in to us she had the most horrendous ear infection in both ears and couldn’t hear a thing. She has endured lots of treatment and can finally hear again now although she still has to have an ear wash twice a week or more frequently if her ears are mucky. She is given metacam if she's distressed with her ears. Her ears will be on ongoing condition and any potential adopter will need to be aware of this
She loves her walks - she gets very excited when she sees a lead and jumps about, she does pull to begin with but soon calms down. She will try to go out the door with you, but is fine to be left on her own for a couple of hours and will sleep while you are out. She has not been tested with a crate. She does like to chew plastic toys or wooden blocks and also likes to shred tissues so some things do need to be kept out of her reach.
Mildred has been neutered, vaccinated and is up to date with her worming and flea treatments. She is sociable with other dogs but can be a little temperamental at times but once told no she's usually fine but we would always be a little cautious of her around other dogs. She will bark at dogs (especially border collies) whilst out with foster mum.
She is not dominant over toys or food and shows no inclination to jump fences. She is happy to be touched but doesn't like having her ears cleaned and is a little sensitive when her ears are playing up, when they are fine she does like to have them rubbed. Despite all the treatment she has been through she is fine at the vets - occasionally reluctant to go in but fine once she is in there. She travels well - cries a little with excitement when going somewhere.
She loves adult company and is fantastic with her foster mum’s little boy who is 2. She has never given any concern - if she finds him too much she just moves away from him. She also realises he's a good source of food! She does love her food and can bark or pester when you are eating food.
Mildred needs to be with someone who will be around her for most of the day and who is fairly active.
Potential adopters are expected to travel to meet Mildred in her foster home in South Wales.
