I'm not sure if this is in the right section, so Mods, please move it if there's another place it should be.
I was watching The One Show last night about the opening of Silver Line, a befriending service for elderly people.
So many of the elderly people interviewed said they felt lonely at some point nearly every day.
I know this wouldn't work for the very frail/disabled elderly people, but I think the fitter ones would benefit a lot from adopting a rescue dog.
A lot of elderly people are fit enough to go for a little walk every day, and the company of a dog would stop them feeling lonely.
I am an OAP myself and if I didn't have dogs, I would go for days without leaving the house or speaking to another human being. With the dogs though, I get out for a walk a couple of times a day and whilst out, I usually see one or two people to pass the time of day with. Dogs improve my quality of life no end, and I'm sure they could do the same for others.

I've heard about Silver Line, sounds like a good idea, I'm 67 and spend a lot of time on my own, and having a dog Is great company, makes me go for walks more than I would If I didn't have one.
