Two days on general enquiries and so different in every way... an emotional rollercoaster
Yesterday I was ready to spit feathers with people getting angry with me because we couldn't help them by taking in stray cats or a dog/cat they wanted to go asap.
We all do our very best to help those who call us about their pets and all the strays, but it isn't possible for us to help them all. I and everyone only wish we could.
Then today just after lunch I had a call from the police to ask if we could help .. A gentleman had popped to the shops and was taken ill, he was rushed into hospital and he was so worried because his 2 dogs were still in his car in supermarket car park. We put a plea out for help on facebook and had a huge response from people offering to help . A lovely lady went off to the hospital collected his keys, she then went to the car in the supermarket car park and collected his dogs, the younger dog had been so stressed he had wee'd all over the car, poor lad, although they were sleeping when she got there.. She then took them home to the gentleman's disabled mum, who had been worrying about them as well as her son.
A little later I had another call from an elderly gent asking us to find a new home for his little dog because he isn't able to walk him any more and feels its not fair on his little dog. I was chatting with him for quite some while and it is very clear that he loves his little dog so much, the dog is his only companion, who is always by his side and loves him too. Although I could tell he is struggling to look after himself and his little dog.
I came off the phone and I just cried
All I wanted was to somehow make it possible for him to keep his little dog and get some help for him to look after him and walk him for him.

it was a brilliant result today and is heartwarming to see how many people are prepared to help a stranger.
Where is the old gent Pauline?

Pauline I cried just reading about your two days. I do so hope that that gentleman can keep his little dog, so many people of all ages their animals are their best friend and just need a little help to keep them with them. There must be loads of people out there who would walk a dog free to help someone out. Fingers crossed a good Samaritan will come forward for him and make his Christmas. x

I am going to have another chat with the gentleman to see if by finding a dogwalker for him would make it easier him to keep his little dog.
The gentleman who was rushed too hospital is doing OK and should be going home in the next couple of days.
My week has returned more to the norm for general phone enquiries, I can't say it's a good thing though, as it still means lots of animals out there needing our help, but as always everyone in the team pulls together to enable us to help as many of them as we can.

Pauline, don't know how you cope with the phone calls - so many emotions. I know someone who used Cinnamon trust to help them & it worked really well. Let's hope the old gentleman can keep his companion.

Hi there. I have been talking to Rachel the fostering co-ordinator recently and have sent back my fostering form to her (today). Im just waiting for a response from her then hopefully, all being well, another foster home in Reading Berkshire will be available to help all these people who are in great need. I look forward to joining the fostering community and hope I can do a good job and assist Friends of the Animals with all the wonderful work you do. Warm regards to everyone. Tiffany
