Hello FOA followers
I need a bit of advice, we have a lovely small front garden with at the moment chippings as the flooring (which we are hoping to get rid of as not our cup of teas). A neighbourhood cat is currently using it as his litter box. I clean it everyday try to scare the animal off but nothing is happening! As I have a dog I don't want to put chemicals down but I really want to get rid of this problem. My neighbours must think we are the hillbillies cat poo in the front garden!
I am concerned as Bisc (dog) goes out front only to welcome visitors but he is starting to notice the poo and trying to eat it!
Any suggestions on how to stop cats going in the garden would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Nicola x

In the short term, before you get your ultrasonic scarer try orange or grapefruit peel - cats hate citrus smells. Cats are clean animals and will love the fact that you clean their toilet regularly for them!

They may be clean but it's frustrating as my front garden is low and people passing can smell it. I eave walking past and as we new to street I don't want my neighbours thinking its our dog. I'm allergic to cats so I don't really want the around the house. I will try the home remedies :-)

I didn't mean to offend by saying cats are clean, it's just that the cleaner and fresher the ground the more they use it. I know because I have a problem with my veg patch when it is freshly dug, this year when I haven't had chance to get in the garden much it looks a bit untidy but there isn't any cat poo!

Aww I didn't take offence at all :-). I just dislike cats, purely because I have an allergy to their fur. I've heard black pepper is a good way to get rid, I have tones of that so ill have a clean out there again today and plaster the garden in citrus and black pepper x

the ultrasonic device didn't work in my garden sadly - so if anyone has another solution I will be glad to see it. I get so angry that before my dogs can go out in my garden I have to clear the lawn of the neighbour's cats' poo YUK!

My next door neighbour years ago used to put plastic pop bottles upside down on sticks and lemon peel on her garden to keep my cats out. I don't think it worked. I told her to have a water pistol and give them a squirt but she didn't like to.

We bought a lavender plant, although its not looking very healthy (no green fingers). I also made a home made solution of chilli peppers, orange peel and lemon blended together with hot water, I spray it on the front once a week and fingers crossed it seems to have worked..Or maybe I just haven't taken notice, my front garden is un loved at the moment due to a lack of time with work. We don't leave Bisc out the front has its a low fence and being half kangaroo he can clear my shoulders (I stand at 5ft 10).
I don't think anything really works perfectly, I will be getting rid of the chippings mind and putting slabs down.
