The owners have contacted us for help as their dog has developed diabetes and they are unable to afford to pay for his treatment and the alternative wa he would have been pts.
Pauline has spoken to the vets where he is at the moment and we will be arranging to get her here from Essex asap.

Oscar has arrived here with us this evening he's had his insulin and some tea and is now sleeping after his long journey. He's coming along to the show tomorrow so I'll get pics of him then.

Oscar has been to the vet today. She has taken blood and although he is bpoated like a Cushings dog his results do not indicate this. He has had his insulin dose increased and will be admitted on Wednesday for an ulktra sound scan.

Oscar had his scan done on Wednesday and we've had the results today they can't find anything, so we are continuing with his insulin and seeing how he goes for the next 3 wks.
He's a fab little lad who has settled in here really well, he loves his food, he nags Phil whenever he thinks he might be in with a chance of something to eat. He is very good when he has his insulin and stands still to have it done.
I will get some pics sorted tomorrow for you all to see what a handsome fella he is.

We have had Oscar's latest results back and his insulin has been increased. His tummy seems to have settled but he is sleeping a lot which is a little bit of a worry.
Will remind Pauline we need some pics. We hope to get him booked in the groomers soon.

My little man is very camera shy and won't let me get any decent pics of him yet. I don't push him because he is going through a lot at the moment and I don't want to upset him. We now have his sugars stabalised with the insulin, he is losing his sight very rapidly now though because of the diabeities, he is adapting to this, so long as i don't move things around in the house or leave things in his way. He still sleeps a lot, but it appears he always has. He still has the habit of waking Phil at 6.30 each morning, then when Phil get downstairs Oscar lays down and goes back to sleep until his breakfast is due.

bit like my shih tzu there... have had 30 years of them waking me only for them to go back to sleep!!
Glad his sugars have stabilised - and its amazing how well dogs cope without their sight. Give him a hug from us xxxxx

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that Oscar very suddenly left for the bridge last night.
He has been staying with me whilst Pauline is away and has been fine but on Monday was perhaps a little quieter although he was a very quiet dog anyway.
Yesterday minoring he was sick but did not seem unwell. Yesterday evening he rapidly deteriorated and seemed unsteady so I took him to the emergency vet where he died on the way.
We have felt since he has been with us that there was something else wrong apart from the diabetes but despite a scan and blood tests nothing showed up. He displayed some of the classic signs of a Cushings dog again this was not showing up in his bloods
On the way to the vets he had the most dreadfull smelling diarrhea with blood. This was so foul smelling that the vet did a snap test for parvo although we all were sure it wasn't. The test was negative but the vet felt it very likely that there was some other problem that had caused Oscars death.
I rang Pauline and we both agreed that although we would not wish him to leave like this he was not what could be called a happy dog and was struggling with his blindness.
I am so sorry Payuline did not get a chance to say goodbye to him and have to say I am still in shock at how quickly it all happened.
God bless little man.
