Daisy.. so how is Daisy?.. Hmmmmm.. Bless her.. She's so quiet, so gentle.. Poor baby girl has an abscess on her leg.. I wish she could talk!.. She could have told me it was there.. I didn't know it was there until it burst - yuk! All the gunge browned her fur.. I bathed it for her, and thought she needed it vet checked..
ONE text message to Jo, (her previous foster carer/assessor,) and she got the wheels in motion straightaway..
Thank you to Jo for sorting things out. Jo arranged for Pauline to come, pick Daisy up, transport her to Maesglas vets.. Vet said to keep bathing it in salt water.. Also, I had told Pauline that Daisy has started weeing puddles just anywhere. Yes, I put training pads down overnight but Daisy prefers the living room carpet.. She also drinks far more than Kela.. So, whilst at the vets he/she also took a blood sample to check her kidneys.. Awaiting results.
A HUGE thank you to Jo, and a HUGE thank you to Pauline for the immediate attention and care given to Daisy.. Thanks also to Maesglas vets..

Thank you for your interest in little Daisy, Glenice.. It looks like Daisy has bigger problems than the abscess..
Pauline has updated me on her blood test results.. One high reading suggests there's a possibility she's got Cushings.. The symptoms i've observed seems to fit this.. Only yesterday she fell again in the garden, on this occasion she made no attempt whatsoever to get up.. She just lay flat out, on her side, and I had to pick her up and carry her in..
Pauline is taking her back to the vet on Monday morning where she will undergo further investigation.. I hate it when she leaves me to go to the vet, I also hate the thought of her being taken from her home comfort zone.. It's got to be confusing for her, maybe stressful as well.. Maybe it's me that hurts more than Daisy, hopefully that is so..

Oh dear, poor baby of course you are going to be concerned she is part of your family, none of us like leaving our pets in strange surroundings, hopefully they don't stress as much as we do,let's hope that whatever the outcome Daisy will be given meds to help her.I will be watching for updates on this little love.

Daisy is very ill today.. Am wondering if she's going to make it through the night.. It's why i'm still up.. Monday is her return to vets day.. Her meds for Cushings have had no effect whatsoever.. Should be some improvement after a month's tablets.. She's not touched any food today, and she so loves her food!!.. She's had bile up twice, and she's vomitted very thick, whitish jelly up 9 times.. It's bad! I need to keep clearing it from inside her mouth because she can't get air in to breathe..
It's gonna be a long night.. Poor Daisy..

Very sad for me, but good for Daisy.. She is now at peace.. No more falls, no more pain.. She was in a lot of pain yesterday..
The amazing Pauline travelled over here at 2a.m today, she took Daisy on her final journey to the vets.. At 3.50a.m. Pauline contacted me to say that Daisy was now in peace..
Goodnight sweetheart, you were a treasure.. x x x

Thanks Glenice.. I know exactly what pain Daisy was in.. I got the badge.. I was given anti inflammatories, they took the lining off my stomach. The pain was terrific, I couldn't even sip water. Daisy's symptoms were identical to mine.. Her watery poo was 90% blood.. the sticky jelly in her mouth meant she was gasping for air to breathe.. ditto to that as well.. Daisy was given Metacam for her athritis.. My Dr insisted I tried Ibuprofen a 2nd time, but with other tablets to help line the stomach. Day 2 the nasty pain started again. It is now on my records that I must not be given anti inflammatories.. I've only detailed this so that others can be aware, what to look out for. I learnt by experience. Also, Daisy's symptoms are listed exactly as possible side effets on the Metacam leaflet..
Just be aware everyone, be cautious when giving it to your pet. Watch them carefully.

I come here, to your pages, Daisy, and I've lost count how many times i've read about you right from the 1st post.. Though things are easier for me now, Oh, how I miss caring for you.. I'm still looking to see where you're lying when I get up in the mornings.. I miss cleaning your eyes how many times a day.. mixing your food, stepping over you in the kitchen, carrying you up/down stairs.. I miss you Daisy.. x x x
Thankfully, I can come here and can read your story..
For 2 days I've blamed myself for losing you.. It's my fault, I gave you the meds.. Me!.. If only I hadn't given you the meds.. Then I think, there was no improvement in your health after a month on the meds for Cushings.. You had no life, just eat, sleep and toilet.. At least you're no longer falling about, hitting your head, your legs are not giving way beneath you.. You're at peace now.. .. Then it's my fault again.. I'm so, so sorry Daisy.. I miss you loads n loads.. x x x Mam x x x
Early days yet..
I'm not writing this for sympathy or for any replies.. I'm just talking to little Daisy..

Morning, what you are going through is normal,Ive been there, and still shed tears almost 9 yrs on, it does help for you to talk to Daisy, you gave Daisy love the greatest gift, but now only time will help you come to terms with your loss,we accept this loss, but never really get over it, Guilt is a very big part of grieving, and we need to feel this to begin to heal, why we feel guilt I will never know because we have done nothing to feel guilty for. I am thinking of you, this is not a sympathy post, just letting you know I understand .

Hi Glenice.. As you can see, i'm here again.. TBH, I thought Daisy's page would be lost in the archives by now.. I've got it pin tabbed so I wouldn't lose it.. So i'd not been expecting anyone else to come across it..
Thank you for your kind words.. We all know our pets are not going to be with us forever.. Daisy was my 2nd, aged, rescue dog.. both came with health problems.. I had Cutie, (another elderly Shih-Tzu) for 3 + 1/2 yrs, Daisy for just 9 months..
I really am strong enough to do this, because I love the 'caring for' bit.. BUT, I cannot watch a pet suffer for the rest of their life - arthritis aside of course.. If they're not going to recover, leave them go peacefully, free them from their pain..
Daisy was in a very warm flat, well fed, well cared for.. Soon my mind will be telling me, her last few months were the best they could have been.. and i'll be looking for another small dog to care for.. We either love animals or we don't..
