Sometimes in rescue we think we have seen it all. We are in danger of becoming too used to cruelty, neglect and the barbaric way our fellow humans can treat the animals we love and respect. We read stories on social network sites and we see pictures that are testament to the savage and inhuman treatment so many animals receive and then one lands in our care and we are again unable to comprehend how our fellow humans cannot understand the enormity of their actions. A couple of months ago William came in to us. Found wandering the streets he was the most emaciated dog we had ever had in our care. His foster mum has done an incredible job with him and he has received the best possible care. Tonight we were asked to help with another starved dog. Not only has someone failed to feed this Lab x bitch for some considerable time but somehow she has had half her tail chopped off leaving the bones exposed. Our vet estimates her age as approx 8 years but due to the disgusting state of her teeth they cannot tell for sure. Her tail will need to be amputated but she is far too underweight to undergo surgery at the moment. Goodness knows how long she has been suffering. Well done to Cheryl Barneyhouse for picking her up and getting her to our vets.

Have said this before but I hope what goes around comes around. How anyone can watch and let this happen is beyond me. As Louise said, words are never enough. Wishing her all my love and a speedy recovery.xxxx.

Poor dog. Isn't it shocking how this sort of neglect and abuse is going on, unseen, right under our noses? Its the sort of photo you might have expected to see from Romania or Bulgaria. I do so hope that starvation is her only problem, and there is no serious, underlying medical condition.

She is going to have blood tests done to check for any other conditions. The owner is unknown but we will do a newspaper appeal and see if we can track them down. She is not chipped of course. Cheryl who found her running on the road and picked her up in her car headlights thinks she is a full Labrador.

Poor sweetheart ~ shocking pictures ~ where is she now? Please keep us updated of her progress ~ hope she is warm, with a full tummy and a gentle word ~ It may be that her owner died and she was left ~ I have had emaciated dogs before and that has sometimes been the case.. Thanks to whoever is caring for her, Jackyxx

Jackyxx Have passed your message on jacky, as Eileen is in work tonight. She has asked if you would get in touch with her tomorrow, please? I know the poor dog is going to the vet on Saturday morning so maybe you could meet her there?
