Alby is much brighter today. His is not happy with his stitches and it may also be that his skin is a little sore where he had to be shaved off. The spots on his body are horrid but should start to improve with the antibiotics.
Non of the dogs here usualy go upstairs as that is the cats domain but I do like to let them up to have a nose around when they first come in. Alby is like the ex breeders we have and managed to get up there ok but stood at the top and barked for me to bring him down on both occasions so pretty sure he has not experienced them before. Bella diud show him what to do but he wasn't having any of it.

Poor Alby , but great to hear he is feeling better today. If he needs a knitted coat to keep him warm let me know his chest and length measurements and if I have anything suitable I'll post it to him

Lesley you CAN'T blaim yourself about Jas, she was sooo very poorly and you gave her the best time she could have had in her too short life, remember the good times and everything you did for her xx I do and I will blame myself cos I did not take her back to the vet that morning as they didn't feel there was anything wrong but I will NEVER forget her little character which was quite something and the image of her diving under the computer tables in my evening class to attack and rag the shoes of whoever was getting up to go and pick up their printout will stay in my memory forever

That sounds just about right for the breed Eileen So you can imagine when you have 4 or 5 who think it just might be fun to run upstairs and then bark to come down when you live on your own so can only safely manage to bring 2 down at once and by the time you get back upstairs for the next 2 the first 2 are sitting there as well....its not long before you go and buy a stairgate LOL

I have started a new thread under "Dogs In Foster". However for those of you that can't see it; Alby came to us on Saturday, we picked him up on the last leg of the transport run. He's a real little cheeky character; he certainly thinks he is a "Lion Dog" but then he's had to fend for himself for goodness knows how long, so bless his heart he's had a bad start . His rash/sores are healing well, (he's still on antibiotics but only 3 days left). His fur is starting to grow back nice & silky, it's quite uneven & choppy where the vet had to shave off his matts & we call him Gizmo, as he looks like a gremlin with his short pointy ears! I've booked him in with my groomer in a couple of weeks, (I'll cancel it if he's already found a forever-home) cos I think by then he'll be calm enough & ready for his new look. He walks lovely on a lead no pulling at all & only gets spooked when we walk through the woods, which is understandable - so I've been avoiding that for now & just going to the park or heath (he loves the duck pond). We are going for two 40 minute walks a day & that seems to have done the trick with his "sexiness" lessening (plus the fact he's been castrated - so we've just got to wait for that testosterone to dissipate completely). He is very soppy when he's tired & cuddles up on the sofa with me & rolls over for me to stroke his bald spotty belly . He's eating a lot but I guess he was starving for a while & I'm sure he is not as skinny as when he arrived but maybe that's just wishful thinking. We are working on his toilet-training & his cat fixation is also a work in progress, (luckily our cat is a big confident tom, that gives as good as he gets & won't be intimidated). We are using a stair gate so the cat can have some peace upstairs but also so he won't sneak up there & have an accident trying to come down (he can climb the stairs but not descend, so at the moment I'm carrying him down). He does tend to follow me around like my shadow but surprisingly he is not too bad when we go out; he cries/whines/barks for about ten minutes then gives up & goes in his crate for a snooze (I've sneakily watched him through the window). Things are slowly improving, so I have faith & it is early days yet . Jacqui.

I've got pictures of him in my head going about his routine, thanks to your wonderful update. I am so glad he's come on and starting to do normal doggy things. I bet he has put on a little weight, probably just the fact he isn't on full time guard has slowed his calorie burning down, he can relax a little now. Poor little mite afraid of the woods, but after goodness knows what he's been through its no big deal and in time a little help will overcome that.
Sounds like you are doing a great job, but do I sniff a failed fosterer?!!

Poor little Alby, what a sad start in life, but Jaqui, sounds like you are doing a brilliant job with him, his luck has turned now and I'm sure he can look forward to a wonderful future either with you (cos I know you have a soft spot for Shih Tzu's ) or with a new forever home.

I tried to log in on STW the other day but obviously I have forgotten my user name/password Lesley . When I've got time I'll re-register under jacquiann & put some photos on etc. I've taken some more today, so just need Jon to upload them for me & I'll put them on here too (I'm rubbish at it & always loose them ).
